It may be the first day of fall, but, with temperatures topping out above 100 degrees around the county, it certainly still feels like summer.

People were heading outdoors to bask in the warm weather. Phones were ringing off the hook at Sunset Bay State Park, near Charleston, with campers trying to book a spot. Park employees said the beach was packed.

“There were a lot of people out,” said Coco Sutton, a park assistant. “It was gorgeous out. There was no wind. The campground is completely full.”

Temperatures hovered about 30 degrees above the average for this time of year. The warm weather should linger throughout the week, according to the National Weather Service.
